The Mengarelli's and the Harrigans' have been friends for years. Augie and Cleo and Madaline and Jack all had strong personalities. They all had steadfast belief in their families and fought to give our families strong foundations. It only makes sense that we younger family members would have a connection. I am so proud of the collaboration that our families have entered into and value the relationships that we enjoy. Mengarelli's Italian Table and Harrigans' Barn work as a team to host the Community Feast at the barn. This AMAZING food fest is a continuation of everything that both of our families hold dear...friends, family and food.
We took down the grape arbor that my brother, John, built for Madaline. The single grape vine that she planted on this arbor many years ago had grown to fully encompass the significant structure. John transplanted the root system that produced this abundance of vines and grapes, and it now is planted back into the ground that my parents loved. We pray it will grow and hopefully someday might produce some grapes. We did everything the internet told us to do as we transplanted this specimen that was as big as my leg. Surely that will guarantee success?
The grape vines that we cut away were not wasted. My sister in law, Patty, and I made wreaths. And one wreath we made was specifically for the Mengarelli family. We added some ribbon in the colors of Italy and included a rosette proclaiming that they are Proudly Italian. This gift of love was more from my mom than it was from all of us. It was an appropriate reminder to this beloved family that we respect their heritage, and share the same blood. But most importantly, we are connected in the love for this project that is the Community Feast. This 7 course authentic Italian meal will be served at the barn, under the stars, on Saturday, May 8th, which just so happens to be Mother's Day weekend.
So, Mengarelli family, the Harrigan family wishes you all buon Natale and felice anno nuovo. We are proud to be your partners in this endeavor and cannot wait to rock it one more time.
