Making New Friends and Finding Cool Junk With the Family

So, I got an invitation a few weeks ago from an unlikely source. I had just finished up breakfast at Hiway Inn, and a couple called me over. I was familiar with them, but not close friends, and they said they had been waiting for an opportunity to visit with me. It seems the gentleman has a penchant for junking, and he was eager to let me come dig through his stuff. I am always intrigued by that type of invitation, so I took their number and promised to call them soon. The weather last week was gorgeous, and the schedule was perfect for my brother, John and my sister-in-law Patty, to go with me. We were heading for a farm several miles from town and we took out for our appointment. These folks were so welcoming and gracious and eager for us to get to digging so we commenced picking their property. Holy COW!! He wasn’t kidding when he said he likes to buy stuff. They had every type of stuff you could imagine. It was outside in the pasture, inside in storage buildings, stored in grain bins and even in attics of grain bins. We all felt just like American Pickers as we crawled and maneuvered through their stuff. The bottom line is that we bought LOTS of GREAT stuff! We were thrilled to make new friends in this business, and were extended a welcome to come again. That is what I love about this business…making new friends, spending time with my family and finding new super cool junk. I cannot possibly give you a full and complete list of the goodies that we brought home, but I can tell you the we bought 4 woven metal garden gates, several tractor seats, some unusual enameled farm pieces, a kitchen pump, a ride on tractor, and…and…and. Some of these things will be available for purchase at Harrigans’ Barn Hometown Holiday. Some of these things will be reimagined into some awesome stuff. And some of these things will find a new home in the barn or in one of our homes.

We have a show coming up! Yes, one month from tomorrow is Harrigans’ Barn Hometown Holiday. It is inside the barn and in the adjacent lean to’s. I have invited 9 vendors to lay out their wares just for you, just in time for Christmas. Mark your calendars, come spend some time with us, but please understand that we will require you to wear a mask when you are shopping with us, and we will be asking for patience so we can make sure that folks can come shop with us and be safe. We are located at 608 S. Sinnet in Girard, Kansas. We will be open from 1 to 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. We are asking for prayers for good weather. Another trip is planned to our new utopia, and they are already gathering stuff for us now that they know our sweet spot. We will take a trailer and a truck next time, just so John will have a comfortable place to sit on our return journey. Just as I was invited into the wonderful world of junk at the farm of my new best friends, I invite you to enjoy some time with us at Hometown Holiday! Won’t you join us?
